What’s the question you dread being asked?

So... You decided to go and do some networking?

Inevitably, unless you confidently walk in and take charge of every conversation, you will be asked the default stock question, everyone asks...

"So, tell me, what do you do?"

When I started out, I didn't really know how to answer, other than the obvious "I'm an accountant..."

...but after a while, I began to realise that people have a preconception of what that means, and in some cases the conversation that followed wasn't very comfortable as they begin to berate the profession because of some bad experience they've had in the past and it can just make the whole networking experience suck.

If you take some time out to learn some default statements and phrases, and yes, why not practice them, just like learning lines for a play...

Then experiment and play with different examples until you become really comfortable, I share some idea in the video above.

What will follow is that the person you are speaking to, if they are an ideal prospect will quickly see you are confident and authoritative, and that's a great place to start your long term working relationship together, right?

I talk more about this in my free training videos, there are 3 X c.30 minute FREE training videos, me on camera sharing some really cool stuff, all you gotta do is watch them and take notes.

I live in Dorset with the gorgeous Vicki, we've got 4 grown-up children, a dog called Eddie and a stupid cat!. I'm an accountant just like you and have built a practice that has no UK staff, no office and never runs to other people's deadlines or their stresses. My practice provides us with a full-time income on part-time input leaving me time to pursue other interests, one of which is I want to help Sole Practitioners just starting out to avoid the pain and suffering I went through when I first started prime entry.
